Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Ninaivu Marriage Assistance Scheme:

The Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Ninaivu Marriage assistance scheme was launched in the year 3rd June 1989.This scheme focused in helping poor parents for getting their daughters married. It also promoted educational status of poor girls up to 10th standard. The financial support was enhanced on continuous basis from Rs.5000/- to current annual support of 25,000/- during the 1st April 2010, as an Educational support for the poor girls. 

What is the role played by Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammiyar?
Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar is a renowned social reformer who participated in the anti Hindi agitations in the year 1938 and later joined the “Suya Mariyadhai Iyakkam” (Self-Respect Movement) but withdrew from it after Periyar refused to give primary importance to the Devadasi bill which would prohibit the Devadasi system. This scheme is launched in the year 1989 onwards as per G.O.M.S No.515 S.W.D dated 31.5.1989. 

What are the objectives of the scheme? 
To help the financially poor parents in getting their daughters married and to promote the Educational status of poor girls.

What is the assistance provided under this scheme for the rural women?

With effect 1.4.2010 the beneficiaries under this scheme will be paid Rs.25,000 as announced in the Budget speech of Hon’ble Minister for Finance for the year 2010-2011.  

What are the criteria for availing the benefit under this scheme? 

 The criteria for availing the benefits under this scheme are:

  1. The bride should have studied upto 10th standard and relaxation for Scheduled Tribe is V standard.
  2. The bride should have completed 18 years of age.
  3. Only one girl from a family is eligible.
  4. Within 45 days from the date of marriage. The applications accepted even one day before the marriage.
  5. The annual income ceiling fixed for availing the benefit under this scheme is below Rs.24, 000
